Elkford Library Home Page
In response to
advances in technology and the changing needs of the community, the Elkford
Public Library endeavors to be an advocate for the community in development,
enhancement, promotion and provision of recreational and educational library
services.
The Elkford
Library does not monitor and has no control over the information accessed
through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content. As with
other library materials, restriction of a child's access to the Internet is the
responsibility of the the parent/legal guardian.

Internet Use Rules and Procedures
Welcome to the
Elkford Public Library's public access to the Internet. To maximize Internet
availability , and to ensure fair accessibility for all, please follow these
rules and procedures:

When signing
up to use the computer for the first time, please read this and fill out the
registration form at the desk.

No advance
booking or reserving internet computers. It is a first come, first serve
basis. If there are people waiting to use the Internet any person with at
least one hour of time may be asked to end their session, starting with the
longest user.

When using the
computer: *You must have a staff member sign you in and mark your
start time. *There is a charge of $1.00 per half hour. You must pay
the $1.00 at sign in and must come to the desk to be signed out and pay the
remaining fees. *No more than one person at the computer at a time. Our
space is very limited. *Internet access is available only during library hours.

You may not
use your own software programs on the library computers. This will help
prevent computer viruses that are common on public computers.

The Elkford
Public Library will not provide downloading privileges.

The computers
do not contain software to restrict access to areas not suitable to
children. We do not guarantee that children will not be able to access
unsuitable material.

Children 12 years of age and under must
be supervised by a parent/guardian. Students 13-18 years of age must have a
Parental
Consent Form to access the Internet. This form must be signed in person by
their parent/guardian. Please note that parents are responsible
for any damages that may result if children misuse the equipment.

Printing
Fees: *20 cents per laser print copy
*50¢ per
colour laser print copy

Anyone
misusing or damaging the computer, or using the Internet for illegal
purposes may have their library privileges suspended, and/or be prosecuted,
and will be financially liable for any damage to the equipment.

If you have
any difficulty in using the computer or the Internet, our staff does not
have time to provide extensive help, we can refer you to our volunteer
trainers, educational videos or local internet classes. We will answer a
maximum of three questions regarding the Internet during any one session.

Because of
library scheduling, internet-trained staff may not always be available.

If there are
any additional charges, you may be required to pay for them.

The Internet
computers are for reference and e-mail use only. Game playing, chatting, or
instant messaging are not allowed.
